As we had to greatly modify the walk planned on the 8th of January to suit the weather conditions, this walk is the one planned for that day. However, as some people did manage to get there for that walk, to avoid any repetition after just 2 weeks, this is the original walk in reverse!
We start at Longshaw, walk along to the Grouse Inn and down through Hay Wood and then take the path over towards Grindleford Station. We go up to Whim Plantation and then walk to Scraperlow and Mitchell Fields before going over Higger Tor. We walk up in the direction of Burbage Rocks and then head back to Longshaw.
Those people travelling by public transport need to take the 65 bus from the Interchange at 09.35. At least one of the leaders will join the bus at Furnival Gate. It arrives at Longshaw at 10.02. There is plenty parking at Fox House and in the Longshaw car park.
The walk will begin at 10.15 and end no later than 15.30. The cafe at Longshaw closes at 16.00.
There is a 272 bus to Sheffield at 16.23. There should also be a 772 bus to Knowle Lane at 16.02, but I am not sure how reliable this is.
There are two steepish hills, both up and down, and a bit of a scramble over Higger Tor. There may be some squelchy areas underfoot depending on the weather in the days immediately before the walk but most of the paths are in good condtion.
