We have worked with Partneriaeth Tirwedd Ynys Cybi/Holy Island Landscape Partnership to organise this moderate walk of about 4 miles. Our guide for the walk will be Andy Short, an accredited walk leader with GeoMon, who has been kindly sponsored by the Landscape Partnership.
The walk take you over some of Britain`s oldest rocks, back to a time before the evolution of life as we know it. We will see evidence of ice ages and the movement of tectonic plates. We will also look at the intriguing history of the area, including Saints, Druids, ship wrecks and pirates, all of which will be described by Andy.
This is one of Anglesey`s most scenic walks. With the mountains of Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula as a backdrop, the cliff top route includes an ancient well, two sea arches and stunning views. There is wildlife in abundance, and you are likely to see chough, peregrine, seals and a resident mountain goat.
The walk with Andy Short will finish about 1pm.
After lunch there will be an opportunity for those who wish, to continue the walk with me on the coastal path in the opposite direction, with a loop back inland through the woodland. This will be about 3 or 4 miles depending on the conditions and will take about 2 hours.
You will require a reasonable level of fitness and agility as the coastal path can be steep and uneven. The majority of the walk is on the Anglesey Coastal Path, with the option in one place of a short scramble over a few rocks to reach a particular feature. The path is muddy in places when wet and there are rocky uneven stretches around Rhoscolyn Head. Walking poles are recommended, along with waterproof clothing and stout footwear.
Please bring a packed lunch and a drink. There are toilets at the start and end of the walk which are being opened especially for us at the request of the Holy Island Landscape Partnership. Well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome.
There will be no charge for the car parking as this will be covered by the Landscape Partnership for which we are very grateful. However, car sharing is recommended as the lane leading to the car park is very narrow and twisty, with few passing places. You might consider car sharing or walking from the church in Rhoscolyn if you do not wish to drive down to the car park.
The White Eagle public house is near the car park.
Please text me Dave M on 07908 128768 and I will confirm your place. Unlike most of my walks, there is a limit on the numbers on this walk so early booking is recommended.
