Short circular walk taking in the delights of Richmond. We will go through Richmond Green (passing Richmond theatre and library) to reach the river, where we will turn left, passing Asgill House, built on the site of the old Richmond Palace. Further along we take the path leading to Petersham Farm, and just before Petersham Church, we turn left and soon enter Richmond Park. There’s one hilly part as we go up the steps towards Pembroke Lodge where we can stop to admire the views. On the way back, we pass through King Henry’s Mound, where there is a protected view of more than 10 miles, all the way to St Paul’s cathedral in the City of London. We exit the park through Richmond Gate and continue walking towards the centre of Richmond until we stop again to admire another famous view of the Thames at its bend, a scene painted by JMW Turner in 1819. We go back to Richmond station via the main shopping street.
Toilets are available at the start (Richmond station) and at Pembroke Lodge.
