A Woodland and Riverside walk, with a climb to start and a finish beside the river. We may even see the first flush of Bluebells! 4.3miles. On a mixture of Woodland paths, riverside and pastures., six two-step easy stiles, one difficult stone one. The first half mile on the outward journey is a steady plod, rising up from the A6 to Copy Wood. Some undulating surfaces through the woods. One steep downhill, through a horse paddock, could be muddy if wet. Coffee/tea break. (2.3 miles) Near Peak railway. The last two miles mostly flat. Sheep in some fields, Dogs on Leads please.
Risk assessment
We cross the A6 twice, take ultra care on this very busy road, which we will walk beside for about sixty yards, single file, a must and facing oncoming traffic, keeping near to a low wall and inside the white line. We leave the A6 down a very steep flight of eight stone steps, take care, good hand hold. If wet, the wooden stiles could be slippery. One stone stile could prove a problem for some, but there is an alternative. As mentioned, the horse paddock is quite long and downhill, many divots, where horses have trod, the way will be muddy if wet, slipping/tripping hazard. Beware of tree roots in all woodlands tripping hazard. Be careful along the extensive riverside path Several fields with sheep, so dogs on leads at all times please.
