We will meet in St Mary's Church car park in Rushden, just behind the village hall, Church End.
Rushden is a tiny village with a population of about 200, many of the properties date back to the 16th century. It is a pretty village with lots of thatched cottages. The parish of Rushden includes several small hamlets - Shaw Green, Mill End, Southend Green and Offley Green.
The walk is mainly on footpaths and fields, we will see some alpacas from just behind the church as we set off. From here we will also have a view of Julians Hall, the owner of this house owned all of the Rushden Estate up until the 1920's. We will head over to Broadfield Hall, following paths which will lead us back to Rushden via Treacle Lane.
At this point (approx 6 miles), there is the option of turning right and heading straight back to the church, or turn left and follow the lane down to Mill End Nursery which is well known for tea and cake refreshments. For those wishing to do the full 7.5 miles, we will instead head towards Shawgreen Lane, taking us to Redhill where we will have a short walk back on the road which runs parallel to the River Beane. This option adds approx 1.5 miles, taking the walk to 7.5 miles in total.
This is a very dog friendly walk with only one part where we walk on the road for a short time, and one part where there are sheep so they will have to be on the lead for this part.
This is a moderate pace walk. We want everyone to enjoy our walks, if you have any concerns about the pace please speak to the walk leader.
No need to pre-book or contact the leader in advance. If already a Ramblers member, please just bring your Ramblers card (or membership details on the app) to help speed up the Ramblers register before we start the walk.
