A circular walk starting at the Lido in Saltdean. After some suburban walking, we climb onto the Downs and up to Swanborough Hill. We follow the South Downs Way with views over the Lewes floodplain, before descending into Balsdean Valley. We stop for a picnic lunch at the site of the lost village of Balsdean. Then we climb out of the valley before descending into Rottingdean, following the coastline back to the Lido starting point.
Bus travel is the best option for this walk with No 12, 12A 12X and No 14 buses all stopping at the Saltdean Lido bus stop. NB - The car park opposite the Lido was previously free, but is now pay-to-park (over 4 hours £7.70)
Public toilets across the road from the Lido on the seafront. Also, shops, cafes and bars nearby.
If you can, please RSVP to this walk via our Meetup site. This will give the walk leader a rough idea of how many people may be attending. If you are a paid up member of the Ramblers organisation, you can ignore any waitlist you may find yourself on.
We don't ask you to pay to join us on your first three walks. Afterwards, in order to continue walking with our group, you must become a paid-up member of the Ramblers. Click here (https://www.ramblers.org.uk/membership) to apply. The cost is very reasonable and there are also other benefits. Please then bring your membership card with you.
