Overview

Length: 13 miles / 21 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Walk leader: Beth (07956242703)

Following the success of walking The Ridgeway in 2023, the Chiltern Young Walkers have set themselves a new challenge of walking Shakespeare's Way in 2024!

A 146 mile route that winds its way through the Cotswolds, the Chiltern hills and along the Thames between Shakespeare's Historic Birthplace and The Globe Theatre in London. Its a beautiful fully signposted route that goes through towns such as Chipping Norton, Woodstock and Marlow as well as the beautiful city of Oxford and of course a long section along the River Thames in London. We're kicking the challenge off with a double bill, which you can do either part of as a day trip or stay for an little weekend away!

There are two options to meet us for this walk:

Option 1 - Meet us at 10.30 at Slough station (Slough Station East car park) and we'll jump on the Elizabeth line to Hayes and Harlington (9 mins on the tube) for the actual start point. Car park costs £6.30 for all day parking.

Option 2 - Meet us at Hayes and Harlington station at 11am, for those where its more convenient to get there that way than drive and meet us at Slough. We'll be setting off latest by 11.10 so if you're later than that you can catch us up or meet us as we go past another station.

This route, whilst long, is pretty straightforward! We essentially continue along the Grand Union Canal for a good few miles until it meets up with the River Thames, ready for our finale on the 12th October! It's a very gentle route with minimal ascent and in exchange we should see a lovely mix of city and countryside as we amble alongside the canal and river.

Please wear sensible shoes, dress for the weather, bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. If time allows we'll sneak in a pub stop as usual.

Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead at all times.

It helps us if you to sign up and tell us you're coming. If you sign up and later find out you cannot attend please change your RSVP on Meetup so we're not waiting for you.
