Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

Join us for a morning walk southeast of Shepreth through farmland, villages and a nature reserve, also visiting Hot Numbers Coffee Roastery for a drink and a snack.

The route is relatively flat and short, making it an ideal option if you’re new to country walking. Existing members are of course welcome too. The route forms the first loop of a figure of eight from Shepreth so those who like longer walks can stay for another 5 miles in the afternoon. Some paths may be muddy, so please wear suitable footwear.

The walk starts in the village of Shepreth, halfway between Royston and Cambridge, at the Village Hall three minutes’ walk from Shepreth railway station. We’ll head to the nearby village of Foxton and ascend a gentle slope to Foxton Wood, which was planted thirty years ago and opens out onto expansive views to the south.

Then, at the edge of Fowlmere village we’ll take a permissive path along field edges to reach RSPB Fowlmere. Here we’ll follow a boardwalk past reedbeds along the edge of the reserve to reach some picnic tables where we’ll pause for an early lunch.

A mile or so later we’ll come to Dunsbridge Turnpike, location of Hot Numbers Coffee Roastery. Here we can enjoy fresh speciality coffee and delicious cakes baked on site.

After this, we’ll carefully cross the A10 and return to Shepreth in time for an optional afternoon walk northwest of the village (please see our separate event page for details and book a place if you’d like to join in the afternoon).

Please note this walk is not suitable for dogs, as they are not permitted at RSPB Fowlmere.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: Please book your place using the free Meetup website/app. Join the Stag Walkers Meetup group and click the 'Attend' button on the event page.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

If the walk is fully booked, click 'join waitlist' to get a place if one becomes available and please check back regularly as you will likely get a place. The waitlist gives priority to single bookings so if you wish to bring a guest, we recommend booking separately.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we willl only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.
