We will park at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre in Edwinstowe. Autumn is a lovely time to walk in Sherwood. We begin by visiting the Major Oak and Centre Tree. We then use forest tracks to go south to Edwin’s cross where we have our coffee break. Footpaths through the Autumn trees take us north, and we turn eastwards into more open country to reach our lunch stop. Walking in and out of the trees we then return to the car park.
Food and drinks are needed for a day walk. There are toilets at the visitor centre. Be prepared for muddy paths if the weather has been wet.
Turn left off Carolgate into the car park behind the Sun Inn.
Enter Edwinstowe on the A6075 from Ollerton. At the traffic lights in the centre turn right. In a short distance the visitor centre is on the left and the main car park is on the right. £5 for the day, cash or card.
