Overview

Walk in association with the Dartmoor Preservation Association.
The walk will ascend on to West Down, North Wood to Cadover Bridge, before returning across Wigford Down to the Dewerstone Rock and Dewerstone Cottage. We will see the remains of two of Dartmoor’s former major industries, quarrying and china clay. There are stretches of woodland, open downland and fine views over the nearby moorland and coast. We will see the cross on Wigford Down and other ancient remains including the enigmatic Dewerstone Fort, which it is suggested represents evidence of the Neolithic on Dartmoor.
