This a short (5km) and easy, mainly circular walk that will cover parts of Irvine's Beach Park (outward) and the beach (inward).
We will be on mainly established, well used paths but some are uneven and some comprise of soft sand. We move onto the beach via the dunes, which also can be soft underfoot.
For those travelling directly to Irvine by car, bus or train the starting point will be on the path at the bridge/ entrance for old science centre. There are plenty of car parking spaces ( see photo).
We will start by walking around the pond in the beach park, then visit the dragon for a group photo. We then will travel parallel to the beach along the Troon coastal path until we reach a safe place to walk over and down the dunes to join the beach. After a short stop to take in the views and 'water' we will walk back along the beach to the steps and follow the path around to the original starting point.
It can be windy and cold on a beach walk so please make sure you have hat, gloves and a windproof / waterproof jacket. Although the paths are well trodden there are some areas of soft sand so a pole may be preferred.
There are a number of coffee shops in the vicinity and the plan is to go into Duncan's (Harbour Arts Centre) after the walk has been completed.
Anyone making their own way there please let me know.
Car sharing from usual place East Ayrshire Council Headquarters, London Road, Kilmarnock. Please meet @ 9:15 for a 9:30 departure.
