WALK DESCRIPTION: The walk is approximately 3 miles on easy tracks and paths. We will stop at the Golf club cafe towards the latter part of the walk for drinks etc. before retracing our route to the start. The walk begins at the Clock Tower and crosses Lightswood park before turning into Warley Woods . The entrance is framed by the “Ancient” trees of this park, some 400years old as we wind our way to the Cafe and Golf Club. (Toilet facilities available here) Continuing on a perimeter track in woodland around the Golf Course, we come to the site of the original house known as Warley Abbey, built for Hubert Galton. There are interesting trees here, planted at the beginning of 20th Century. Crossing the meadow to more plantations designed by Repton to give a view, the route explores more trees before returning to the cafe for a hot drink. A favourite woodland for Julie Walters, you can learn more on BBC Sounds, Open Country/Warley Woods. Start 11am. Approximate finish with coffee break 1.30 pm.
