Leaving Calne we will walk along undulating farm and park land tracks into the grounds of Bowood House exiting into Derry Hill. Then a pavement walk alongside the very busy A4 to the Millennium bridge where we join the now disused Chippenham to Calne railway at Black Dog Holt. Once the site of the Marquess of Lansdowne’s private railway station. We follow the bed of the railway towards Calne, into Castlefields where there is a short section of the Wilts & Berks Canal. Several steep slopes and areas which could be muddy if wet. Two stiles. Seven mile, three and a half hours, moderate walk. One stop, no prepared seating, bring snack. We have to cross the A4 twice to use the pavements.
Please note: the Finish Time is an estimate and may vary.
Please EMAIL the walk leader to book a place. The register will close on reaching 20 due to the walk crossing the A4 twice, as visibility will not be known at time of walk. If you are willing to car share please contact the walk leader with where you can pick up on your route to Calne.
