This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
This is a gentle walk following the Stort Navigation from Sawbridgeworth to Roydon, returning to the start point by train.
We will walk by a section of the River Stort which was converted to a canal in the 18th century, linking Bishop's Stortford with the River Lea. The route begins at Sawbridgeworth station then follows the historic waterway as it winds its way downstream along the Hertfordshire / Essex border, past Harlow and onwards to Roydon.
Walking on the towpath, we will pass through a range of nature reserves, water meadows and woodland, which should be at its most autumnal, and will make a short detour into the Grade II listed grounds of historic Pishiobury Park.
We will make a stop for lunch partway round; please bring a packed lunch as there are no easily accessible shops on the route.
We finish at Roydon station, which is on the same line as Sawbridgeworth to enable an easy return to the start. Trains to Sawbridgeworth in the afternoon are at 41 and 57 minutes past the hour and the journey takes 10 minutes.
This walk is not suitable for dogs.

Please:
DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the walk and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.
DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.
*TAKE NOTE that if you no-show and/or cancel after the booking closing deadline three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*
Bring a packed lunch/snacks and drinks, appropriate clothing for the conditions and optionally a basic first aid kit.
