A circular walk starting from the picturesque South Oxfordshire village of Ewelme and heads for Thomas Chaucer (Geoffrey Chaucer’s son) country, taking in sweeping and stunning views along the Chiltern scarp from Ewelme Park, a royal hunting ground at one time, and Swyncombe Downs. There will also be opportunities to visit two historic early Norman churches, St Botolph’s and St Mary The Virgin Church, Almhouses and School (the oldest in the country still in use), with the tombs of Thomas and Alice Chaucer. An undulating walk, footpaths can be slightly muddy in places after rain. Sturdy walking boots and hiking poles recommended as muddy paths can be slippery. Please bring a picnic lunch, and a mat to sit on during lunch.
