"The Three Lochs Way links Loch Lomond, Gare Loch and Loch Long and was developed by the Helensburgh and District Access Trust. This first section joins Balloch at the southern end of Loch Lomond with the leafy town of Helensburgh and shares much of the route with the John Muir Way. The route climbs steeply with good views before heading up through forestry and descending over moorland with sea views."
We'll meet at Balloch train station and follow the Three Lochs Way route to Helensburgh. Part of the route is obstructed by fallen trees so we will take the alternative route through the forestry track as shown:

This is a fairly straightforward walk, but it can be muddy in places.
Please wear suitable walking boots and bring your waterproofs as well as plenty of layers with you. If sunny, remember to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water. Please also make sure that have food/snacks with you. Insect spray is also advisable at this time of year!
I advise bringing a packed lunch and a mat for sitting as we will stop on the forest track for a lunch break. However, there are also places to get food at the end of the walk. (There are also plenty of places for ice cream in Helensburgh!)
Getting There:
By Car: Public transport is recommended as the walk starts and finishes in different places. Balloch and Helensburgh are both highly accessible from Glasgow by train. However, there is no direct route between Balloch and Helensburgh.
By Public Transport: There is a train leaving Glasgow Central at 9.16am which arrives at 10.03am in Balloch Station. We'll gather at Balloch Train station before setting off. Please note, we will be returning from Helensburgh train station.
