Venturing just beyond the boundaries of Uttlesford into Cambridgeshire, this walk of approx. 7 miles broadly follows the River Cam. We're going to explore three historic villages on the way, featuring many beautiful old buildings: Starting from The Plough PH in Duxford, the walk takes us to Ickleton and back, taking in Hinxton on the way.
Most of the walk is on quiet, paved village roads and country lanes or well made paths. The stretch of approx. 1 mile along the River Cam is rather narrow and can be a little muddy and hence slippery when wet. There is a parallel path away from the river to avoid the most uneven stretch for those who feel less confident. Depending on weather conditions on the day we have the option to avoid the stretch along the river all together and could also curtail the walk to approx. 6 miles. There are a couple of gated stiles on the way, but none to climb over.
As the Uttlesford Ramblers have almost come to expect from my walks, there will be a tea/coffee/warm-up (and toilet) stop half-way.
Those Ramblers wishing to join us for lunch at The Plough after the walk should please provide their pre-orders to me by Wednesday evening, 6th December. In addition to the normal menu, the pub also offers a light lunch menu and the Christmas menu, all of which can be found on their website -- see link below.
