Tiger Bay Ramblers (TBR) is a walking group for people of working age. It is based in Cardiff but walks across South Wales and beyond.
Experience the beauty of the Upper Sirhowy Valley on this figure of 8 walk, culminating in a lunch stop at the top of Y Domen Fawr (504m), a mountain between Ebbw Vale and Tredegar, with spectacular views in all directions.
The walk starts on the Upper Sirhowy Valley Cycleway close to Markham, a Village 3.5 miles north of Blackwood. We will walk to Hollybush before taking a rough track up into woodland, eventually reaching open Common which at this time of year should have lots of heather in bloom. The open mountain route to Y Domen Fawr overlooks Cwm, Ebbw Vale. The return route overlooks the Upper Sirhowy Valley traversing farmland then woodland.
Good weather is required to appreciate this walk, so an alternative will replace this walk in the event of poor weather.
Well behaved dogs on leads only as there will be plenty of sheep and some dosile cows.
A small parking area is available off the main A4048 road between Markham and Hollybush. From the South, take the next (hidden) right turn after Penywerlod Terrace.
