Overview
Due to the replacement of a long-broken bridge this is a newly reopened walk. It passes by Ardington Lock, which is one the best-preserved locks on the disused Wilts and Berks canal, in the Wantage area, which few people ever see. Thus, it is important that this walk is once again used. Unfortunately, it is a wet and muddy route, as such, it is recommended that Wellington boots or boots with gaiters are worn. The walk itself starts from West Hendred and moves over open low-lying farmland to Woods Farm and on to the tunnel beneath the main London to Bristol railway line at Ardington Wick, which is often wet, then on to Ardington Lock. Then we move West and South reaching the outskirts of Grove before turning East, and across fields to Ardington passing the Millennial stones to the peaceful Parkinson's garden for our picnic lunch stop. Then back to the start via the imposing Ardington House. Vale Walk Leader PR 07418 078044
