This is a figure of eight route that features upland farming countryside and wonderful views over rolling wooded down land. There are a couple of steady climbs and one fairly steep descent which requires care and where a walking pole would be useful. But please be assured, the little extra effort is more than made up for by the lovely surroundings and wonderful views. We start in the Vernham Dean Recreation Ground CP and head west through the village where we climb gently before descending into Hippenscombe Bottom. From here we go north over the downs and on to the remote hamlet of Tidcombe. The ancient church and grave yard in Tidcombe provide an excellent lunch stop. After lunch the return journey crosses more down land and passes through the hill fort on Knolls Down before descending into Vernham Dean once again. There are 4 stiles on this route. Good walking boots, a pole, wind and waterproof clothing and a packed lunch are highly recommended. Please advise the walk leader if you want to come on this walk.
