Overview

Bus no. 1 from Arundel Gate AG4, at 9.37 am. To High Green Health Centre (Thompson Hill/Wortley Road stop). Walk should start 10.22, but due to road works, bus may be a bit late arriving.

The route starts through West Wood, and then crosses a very busy main road, where care will be needed to get over. Then on through farmland and more woodland to reach Westwood Lodge and Wortley Park, now on the Trans Pennine trail heading toward Wortley Hall and village. We'll turn off into Wortley Hall Gardens, to visit the Walled Kitchen Garden (open on Tuesdays), as well as the ancient Wortley Oak. Then have lunch in the ornamental gardens, a very attractive diversion. Onward into the village, and then downhill through fields to Finkle Street, where we  again get on the TransPennine trail through a short section of Wharncliffe Woods, before descending towards Deepcar. Walk will finish at Deepcar, to return on 57 or 57a, roughly every half hour, from bottom of Carr Road.

This walk is fairly straightforward and has no real difficulties. The terrain is a mixture of farmland and woodland paths. In one place the path is  overgrown with nettles and brambles. Also, we pass under two short tunnels, which are muddy, and dark in the middle! Therefore poles, and torch could be useful! The Walled Kitchen Garden is in full bloom at the moment, and  some of their inexpensive produce might be for sale, cash therefore needed if anyone interested. The garden is run by volunteers and there will probably be someone there to talk to or answer questions.

No dogs please.

Please check details again before walk, in case of any changes.
