We are the Hike Essex Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This is a circular walk around Mersea island with excellent views across the Rivers Colne and Blackwater. It’s a very scenic walk that takes in views of Brightlingsea and wider Essex (if a clear day). The walk takes in the pathways and beach at East and West Mersea.
Parts of the walk (North of the island) may require trousers and walking boots / shoes are recommended. There will be a lunch stop, so please bring a packed lunch. There will also be the option of a pub stop at the end.
The group walk at a steady pace of 2 – 2.5 miles an hour, and there is requirement of all walkers to respect the general pace.
Numbers are strictly limited and places need to be prebooked with the walk leader and meeting point will be confirmed upon booking.
Please note that timings may be subject to change if tide height is impassable at these these times.
Meeting point is outside Coastal Coffee on Mersea High Street – CO5 8HT. Paid car parking is available on the High Street (opposite Coastal Coffee) , though spaces can be limited. There is alternative paid parking on Coast Road CO5 8NA, which is further away and more expensive . Please meet at 9:45 for a 10:00 start.
