A 7.5 mile walk, starting with a gentle climb out of Winchester, following the Pilgrim's Way and enjoying the wide views back across the City and St Catherine's Hill.
We then cross Hazeley Down to join the Monarch's Way, which takes us past the Victorian waterworks and down Love Lane to Twyford for lunch.
After lunch we will walk across the water meadows to join the Itchen Way at Compton Lock and follow the path back along the Itchen Navigation, hoping to spot a kingfisher along the way.
We will make a lunchtime stop at The Phoenix Inn at Twyford, just after the 4 miles point, so if you plan to eat there then please make a menu choice from the link above and let me know by 10am Tuesday, to pass on to the pub.
There will also be a break after 2 miles at the War Memorial on Hazeley Down, so bring a drink and a snack.
Either returning the last 3.5 miles on foot or taking the bus from Twyford back to Winchester, as you prefer.
There are a few gentle climbs. It's a bit muddy and slippy in one or two paces, so a pole may be useful in some uneven sections.
Parking at the Park and Ride costs £3.50 all day.
