Meeting time & place:

09:50 at Manchester Victoria station to catch the 10.00 train to Walsden

Start time & place:

After the arrival of the train from Manchester at Walsden station, due 10.34.

Estimated finish time:

5:00 pm

Difficulty:

Strenuous

Distance:

18.5km / 11.5mi

Ascent:

2200ft

Note: walkers are advised to check one of the rail websites such as nationalrail or trainline close to the departure time in case of late changes to the running of the train.

Train ticket - return to Todmorden (if you have a GM concessionary travel card this can be from Littleborough). There are three trains an hour scheduled for the return to Manchester.

Car parking available at Todmorden station, possibly in streets round Walsden.

Walk route - Foul Clough Road, Trough Edge End (1500ft), Limers Gate, Todmorden Moor, Cornholme, Pudsey, Hartley Royd, Todmorden Golf Club.

This is quite a demanding moorland walk with one long, steep climb to Trough Edge End and another shorter steep ascent out of Cornholme. A lot of the paths are grass or firm surfaces but there are stretches of boggy terrain where mud can only be avoided if we have had a sharp frost. In good visibility there are fine views into and across valleys.

Expected time into Todmorden - no later than 5.15pm
