(Updated 3 Feb)
The Wandle Trail mostly follows the Wandle River, a tributary of the Thames in south London consisting of 15 miles of rich chalk stream habitat in good condition. In its industrial heyday, there were over 90 mills along its banks and this industrial heritage is a feature of the walk. We shall be starting our walk at Carshalton Ponds and following the Wandle until it reaches the Thames at Wandsworth. We'll finish with a short stretch along the Thames to cross the river at Fulham railway bridge.
We shall stop for about 45 minutes at Morden Hall Park (National Trust) for lunch (café or packed lunch/toilets).
The Trail is easy going and mostly on hard surfaces, with a few short stretches that may be muddy.
Travel is entirely within TfL zones. From Victoria station, take the 10:11 train to Dorking, arriving Carshalton (toilets) at 10:39. We plan to finish the walk at Putney Bridge station (District Line) as that is convenient for those living in west London. You may prefer to head instead for Wandsworth Town station (SWR). There are many other drop out points along the route.
