A pretty walk with views over the Oxford plain and woodland, starting from Watlington Hill in the Chiltern Hills, passing through Aston Rowant National Nature Reserve, with plenty of chalk grassland and many red kites can hopefully be seen from here. After packed lunch we make our way into Buckinghamshire to Stokenchurch where there will be a drinks only/toilet stop at one of the pubs. Then we stroll through some more Chiltern countryside/woodland including the village of Ibstone to then return to the start point. Possible additional pub at Christmas Common near the end if we feel like it.
Start point: Watlington Hill National Trust car park. Charges apply (£3.00 for the day at time of writing), unless you're a National Trust member. Postcode OX49 5HS, what3words ///sues.windy.hypnotist. Please aim to arrive 10-15 mins before start time of walk at 10am.
Ascent: There will be several hills throughout. 1900ft/600m height gain across the whole walk.
Clothing: So that the walk is a fun and enjoyable adventure, please make sure you're wearing suitable clothes for walking, i.e. good footwear and preferably walking boots, no jeans (they will get soaked through in wet weather/grass!) and no trainers/sandals. If it is raining or forecast to rain, you'll need waterproofs (coat and ideally trousers). If the weather is sunny you'll need suncream and a hat might be useful. Please bring snacks in addition to a packed lunch for eating on-the-go, and enough water (even more water if the weather is very warm/hot).
Dogs: Friendly and well behaved dogs are welcome to walk with us.
Non-Ramblers members are welcome and are able to attend 3 walks before joining the organization.
