Hexham - Fourstones
A moderate circular walk of 9 miles, with a steady incline leading to a short, quite steep, ascent to Warden Hill Trig Point (180m) at the early part of the walk and approximately 3 short inclines, including a set of steps (up and down) towards the latter part of the walk. There are no stiles on this walk. There will be some muddy areas and uneven ground throughout the walk.
We begin the walk from the car park at Tyne Green Country Park, Hexham, heading North towards Bridge End, taking a narrow track behind The Boatside Inn. After a short distance, we turn right onto an open field with a steady incline, leading us across farmland and through woodland, till we ascend Warden Hill Trig Point for lunch (180m) where, weather permitting, we can enjoy 360 degrees of open views.
After lunch, we proceed through the village of Fourstones, with a short stop at St Aiden's Church as a point of historical interest. Heading down towards the Tyne, we take a narrow, country path to Fourstones Paper Mill, at which point, we join a busy road without a path for approximately 300m - please take care at this point by staying to the right hand side of the road and in single file, till we are able to cross the road onto a pathway.
Walking through Bridge End once more, we rejoin the river bank, passing the point where the North and South Tyne meet, after which we take a short set of steps up/down in order to walk along the edge of Hexham Golf Club, with approx 3 short inclines, back towards our start point at Tyne Green Country Park.
A short walk option will be available on the day.
