Hello Everyone
We're off to Shropshire for the first time this year on Sunday for a walk around the Wellington area with Barry & Pam at the helm.
These guys know their stuff hereabouts with a mostly flat 8.75 mile walk taking in parts of the Telford T50, Silkin Way, Ironbridge Way, as well as local nature reserves, Apley Castle park, and a loop through Limekiln Wood at the beginning before returning to near the start point for our coffee break. This facilitates a shorter 5.7 mile walk should you wish. For this option please boot up and be ready to ramble at approximately 11.15 from the same car park.
Why not join us? Don't worry, we'll make you feel welcome - as we always do with our newcomers. Ideal if you could let us know you'll be coming along beforehand please. Thank you.
Registration: 09.45. Walk start: 10.00.
Barry advises there's a Wetherspoons establishment a short strut from our start/finish point so that's the post walk social gig in the bag. Yay!👍
Directions. Primarily for our own members travelling from around the Cannock area.
The start is located in the centre of Wellington and best approached via the M54. Distance from the M54 J6 to the start is 2 miles. A little tricky so satnav useful here.
Via either the A460 or A449 to pick up the M54 westbound and onwards to Junction 6. Also possible via the A5 all the way to Limekiln Bank Island at Saint Georges on the eastern edge of Telford, then south on the A4640 for 1.4 miles to M54 Junction 4 and onwards westbound, direction Shrewsbury, to Junction 6.
Exit the M54 at Junction 6 take the third exit onto the A5223 direction Wellington. Straight on at the first island, then turn left at the second island, some 0.6 mile after leaving the motorway, onto the B5061. Proceed for 0.5 mile to the third set of lights and turn right into Mill Bank (in front of The Cock Hotel) merging into High Street, Wellington.
At the mini-island bear left into Glebe Street, then after 300 yards at the next island (with distinctive wheel type painted road markings) bear left into Victoria Road. After 125 yards turn right into Tan Bank where Belmont long stay car park is accessed on your right after a further 125 yards
