A pleasant walk through open farmland to the west of Stevenage Old Town.
The walk follows on from our late morning ‘Annual Get-together of Members’ and lunch social at Cinnabar in Stevenage High Street (please see our separate event pages to book for joining us at Cinnabar). We hope you can join us for the whole day but if you can’t make it earlier then feel free to come along just for the walk after lunch.
The short and relatively flat route starts by heading from the Old Town to the neighbourhood of Fishers Green, where after crossing the old Green we take a bridge over the A1(M) and enter the countryside. Passing through a field where we may see horses we then follow tracks lined with trees and alongside open fields. Walking south we can enjoy wide views and spy the ruins of Minsden Chapel on the other side of the valley.
After passing Potters Spring we’ll go under the motorway, past Meadway Playing Fields and along the streets back to our start point.
At the end of the walk there’ll be the option of a drink at The Broken Seal Tap Room nearby.
Dogs are welcome on a lead.
There is no limit on group size for this walk but we do find it helpful to know who's coming so:
* if you plan to come along, please book a place for yourself and any guests you are bringing
* if you have to cancel please update your RSVP so we know not to wait for you
* you can RSVP via our Meetup group or e-mail stagwalkers at gmail dot com
Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.
This is a circular walk.
The start time is when we aim to start walking and the finish time is an estimate.
Walks are graded Easy, Leisurely, Moderate or Strenuous in increasing order of difficulty. Please read the walk description to check it is within your abilities and contact the group if you are unsure.
Please:
- DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
- UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the walk and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.
- DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.
- *TAKE NOTE that if you no-show three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*
- DO car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
- BRING a packed lunch/snacks and drinks, appropriate clothing for the conditions and optionally a basic first aid kit.
- FOLLOW NHS guidelines and do not attend the walk if you are unwell.
