Starting at Wimbledon Station, the walk start is up the hill to Wimbledon village. Continue on to Wimbledon Common (toilets before crossing the A3) to Richmond Park, 1,011 hectares of ancient woodland, and to the Pen Ponds and from there to Pembroke Lodge for lunch. After lunch the walk goes to Terrace Gardens (opt out for bus) descends to the River Thames and finishes at Richmond Station. This trail is part of the 6th segment of the Capital Ring Walk, a long distance circular route around London. It is a wonderful way to see the city’s varied areas. There is one steep hill at the beginning of the walk, then fairly flat walking. No stiles. It is likely to be muddy in places, so poles may be a good idea, and overshoes if you plan to go into Pembroke Lodge.
Lunch: Picnic/cafe and toilets at Pembroke Lodge
Train: London Waterloo 9.54, Clapham Junction 10.03 arrives Wimbledon 10.10. Wimbledon is also on the District Line and Thames Link and Croydon Tram and is in Travel Zone 3. There are toilets at Wimbledon Station and in Wimbledon Quarter (formerly Centre Court).
