Another one a bit further afield but let’s make use of the better weather (we hope!) and longer days so see out on the fringes.
Langport calls itself ‘The Heart of the Levels’ and the walk is rich in the landscape associated with this watery world. We start with a walk up the River Parrett east from Langport, then cross inland to Curry Rivel which is marginally uphill – Levels’ hills, not Frank hills. We get nice views over a more undulating landscape than you’d expect, dropping down to rejoin the River Parrett but this time downstream of Langport. A lovely walk up the Macmillan Way back to Langport. Alive with birds – lots of herons on the prewalk – and dayglo cows.
Mostly flat with minor uphill climbs and one steepish descent. Not an onerous walk but you’ll know you’ve done it at the end. Flat can be deceptive. Dogs welcome – just observe any places requesting short leads,
Langport is a short drive from Muchelney Abbey. We won’t have time to visit (it is English Heritage) but if we are back in reasonable time those with an interest might like to visit – closes at 5.00. Langport is also the site of one of the last significant battles of the Civil War….but we won’t be going there! Two stops for coffee and lunch. Lunch at Curry Rivel with option of churchyard, village green or very nice pub (The Firehouse). Cafes in Langport at end if required.
Please note: the Finish Time is an estimate and may vary.
