Walking in and around Rossendale
Welcome to the Rossendale Group. We are one of around 500 groups in the Ramblers. Our group has around 180 members, and is regarded as one of the friendliest groups in the area. We are a family friendly group, so children under 18 can join a walk for free with their parent, grandparent, or guardian. As you can see below, we have walks for just about every level of ability, so do please give us a try.
We walk around 10 miles every Wednesday and every first Sunday. We also run 6-ish mile local walks on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of most months. On some Fridays we organise 9-12 mile linear walks involving local transport one way, but on some other Fridays we do some very different – often quite challenging – walks. About once a year we organise a major challenge walk such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.
Finally, for those of you with less time or less energy, we have 2 hour local pub walks on Thursday evenings in the summer months, and on Saturday mornings in the rest of the year.
These pub walks are very sociable occasions and are ideal for new walkers and working people. We also organise a variety of social events, including an annual walking holiday, Group BBQ, Christmas and New Year meals, theatre trips, etc.
Many of our walks exploit the beauty of the local scenery but often we go further afield to the Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District, or the Lakes.
We have recently successfully started a footpath improvement programme within Rossendale, to date we have repaired 33 stiles, cleared three stretches of footpaths and installed one gate.
