This walk is specifically for people whose lives have been touched by cancer. The centre provides a drop-in centre for anyone affected by cancer whether you are a patient, carer or a bereaved family member. *We ask anyone wishing to take part in this walk to visit or ring the centre prior to the walk day in order to complete Centre Registration (*0161 764 6609). Registration is free and as well as joining our walk you would have the opportunity to benefit from a wide range of practical, emotional & social support from our team of experienced professional staff and volunteers.
The walk starts from the Centre and once we have crossed the road, we join the National Cycleway accessed by a slight incline which follows the disused railway line towards Bury. From here we join a narrow lane which makes its way towards Elton Reservoir. From here there are many alternative routes which explore the shoreline of the reservoir and surrounding countryside. The area is quiet and depending on the time of year can be full of bird life and wild flowers.
The walk is mainly on level terrain with surfaced footpaths and lanes. In some areas there are uneven surfaces and it may be muddy in places (especially after wet weather). Walkers are advised to wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and a warm waterproof coat.
Lunch is available to buy from our café before the walk and we offer a relaxation session and complimentary refreshments after the walk.
