Member satisfaction survey highlights

In September 2023, we invited you to take part in our annual member satisfaction survey. We received over 5,000 responses – a huge thank you to everyone who found the time to give us their views.  

And after closely studying your feedback, we want to share a few highlights: 

 

The things you like most about being a Ramblers member

  • taking part in our group walks (71%) 

  • supporting the work of the Ramblers (62%) 

  • discovering new routes (60%) 

  • and meeting people and socialising (60%). 

 

The member benefits you are satisfied with most

  • our membership magazine Walk (78%) 

  • access to our group walks (76%) 

  • our online routes (65%)  

  • and the member e-newsletter (60%). 

Satisfaction with member experience is high with 85% of respondents being either ‘very satisfied’ or ‘satisfied’.  

More members participated in our group walks this year than in previous years, which is fantastic to see! Participation has been recovering since the first year of the pandemic and we’re very pleased to report it is now back to the pre-2020 level of 70%.  

 

Other highlights: 

  • 83% agree it’s easy to find a Ramblers group walk  

  • 89% feel welcome on our group walks 

  • 92% feel safe on our group walks 

  • 92% enjoy our group walks  

  • 90% would recommend them to others 

We know not everyone walks with our groups. 70% of those who don’t, prefer self-guided walks, including Ramblers Routes.  

 

53% of you downloaded the Ramblers App and used it to: 

  • find Ramblers group walks (45%) 

  • find Ramblers Routes (39%)  

  • check details of group walks you are attending (38%) 

  • use your digital membership card (11%) 

But we also know that some of you are experiencing technical issues with the app. It’s something we take seriously and will be taking steps to address.  

 

Other highlights:  

  • 84% of you believe that the Ramblers increased access to the countryside  

  • 83% believe that the path maintenance and improvement work of Ramblers volunteers and members has improved the path network 

  • 83% believe that the Ramblers have opened up the path network for more people 

  • 70% believe that walking with the Ramblers boosted your wellbeing 

  • 67% believe the Ramblers are making walking more inclusive 

  • 66% believe that walking with the Ramblers increased your love of walking  

Our work as a charity transforms lives and landscapes. We want to work towards a future where anyone can enjoy walking outdoors and the many benefits it offers.
