National treasures (Britain's national parks)
75 years ago, an Act of Parliament had far-reaching consequences for walkers. By giving people legally protected rights to access the countryside in England and Wales, the 1949 Act unlocked a world of awe and inspiration, eventually widened access for everyone in Britain, and gave a special name to some of our most scenic landscapes.
