How we use cookies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your computer when you visit a website. Your browser sends cookies back to the website whenever you visit the site, which helps it to recognise you. This allows the website to tailor the information you see. Cookies enable us to ensure the website functions properly, make it more secure, provide a better user experience, and help us understand what’s working well on the website and where improvements might be needed.

Staying in control of cookies

You can stay in control of which cookies are used by choosing your preferences. Click the round green cookie button which you’ll find in the bottom right corner of any page of our website.  You can accept all the cookies by clicking the 'Accept All' button, reject all cookies by clicking the 'Reject All' button, or you can decide which cookies you will allow by setting the green toggle to on or off for each type of cookie.

How long cookies last

There are two lengths of cookies: session cookies and persistent cookies.

Session cookies allow websites to track your actions during a browsing session and expire at the end of each browsing session. You can identify session cookies in the table of cookies below, as these have no definitive lifespan (apart from the Necessary Cookies).

Persistent cookies allow us to recognise you as an existing user of the Ramblers website. These cookies are stored on your computer’s browser until their expiry date, although you can delete them before this if you choose to do so. Expiry dates for persistent cookies are laid out in the table of cookies under ‘Duration’.

First party and third party cookies

First party cookies are owned by the Ramblers and delivered by us to your computer’s browser. We use them to recognise your computer’s browser when you revisit our site, and to remember your preferences while you are browsing our site.

Third party cookies are cookies that are owned and tracked by a third party, not the Ramblers.  These cookies allow the third party to know when you have visited the Ramblers website and are normally used when another company’s content or services are embedded within our website. As these cookies do not belong to the Ramblers, we are unable to give you control of them and you should refer to the third party’s cookies policy:
