We are the Penrith Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Leaving the car park we head into the village of Crosby Garrett where we begin our gentle ascent onto Crosby Garrett Fell. We travel south across the open fell to Bents Farm where we pick up the Coast to Coast footpath which will lead us to the route of the disused South Durham & Lancashire Union Railway line. We follow this path over the impressive Smardale Viaduct and onward until we return to our starting point.
The final approach to the car park is via a single track road with passing places. Please do not attempt to arrive via Crosby Garrett as this will involve a ford crossing.
