This walk will explore the rivers of Reading, lead on to the AGM, and celebrate my tenth year in the group!
Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.
Pace: medium.
Walk details
To mark the tenth anniversary (near enough) of my first walk with the group, which preceded the AGM in 2014, I’m repeating the same walk.
Leaving the station, we’ll cut through to the Thames Path, and follow the river upstream and cross Caversham Bridge. Turning downstream on the Caversham side, we’ll avoid the Christchurch footbridge (as this wasn’t yet built in 2014!) and instead pass under Reading Bridge, and across View Island and Caversham Lock to return to the Reading bank.
From there, we will continue downstream through King’s Meadow to Kennet Mouth, where we will turn up the Kennet and into the heart of Reading. The walk will end at RISC on London Street in time for the start of the AGM.
Travel details
By public transport
Reading is easily reached by train or bus from many directions. Please note that this walk begins from the north exit of Reading station – this is NOT the town centre side outside the Three Guineas. If arriving by train, please follow the signs to “North Exit and Caversham”.
By car
Please use one of the many car parks available in central Reading if travelling by car, where charges will apply.
Notes
- Please note: there is NO lunch stop on this walk.
- Please feel free to contact the leader with queries about the walk, or if you are delayed on the day.
