The walk takes us North out of Wallingford, crossing the River Thames, before heading across farmland and through woods towards the village of Ipsden. We'll continue, pausing for lunch along the way, via South Stoke and North Stoke and Mongewell Park. Time permitting, we may pause in South Stoke to visit the Perch and Pike Inn before continuing on our way back to Wallingford.
Please bring a picnic lunch, snacks and something to drink, plus warm clothing and a torch if you are staying on for the Fireworks. Boots are recommended as paths are likely to be muddy. The walk includes 550 feet (168m) of ascent in total.
Meet for a 10:30 start at the Cattle Market car park in Wallingford. Parking costs £4 for the day. Alternatively, take the River Rapids X40 bus from Reading to Wallingford Market Place. The bus departs Reading railway station, North Interchange, at 09:38 and arrives in Wallingford at 10:22. See the timetable. The meeting point is five minutes' walk from the bus stop.
All are then welcome to stay on in Wallingford for Fireworks in the evening.
Wallingford Fireworks Display starts from 6pm on the Kinecroft (OX10 0DT) first with a quiet display, followed by a bonfire and more fireworks set to music. There is no charge for the display, but donations are welcomed.
