5 fantastic Greenland experiences with HX Hurtigruten Expeditions

Greenland is one of the world’s most enigmatic places, its natural beauty, fascinating culture and impressive wildlife remain a mystery to many. Ramblers partner HX Hurtigruten Expeditions offer voyages to experience this amazing place, and here Torstein Gaustad, Expedition Leader on the MS Fridtjof Nansen tells us about some of the places you might see if you join them.

The Ramblers partnership with HX Hurtigruten Expeditions not only offers you discounts on expeditions, but every booking supports our work to improve paths and increase access to nature by breaking down barriers to walking in nature.

1. Whale watching among towering icebergs

One of the most memorable wildlife experiences I’ve had was witnessing a pod of humpback whales feeding near the ship, surrounded by enormous icebergs. Seeing these massive creatures up close, hearing their breaths break the silence, and watching them move effortlessly through the icy waters was truly humbling.

3. Constantly changing landscapes

Greenland offers some of the most breathtaking and varied landscapes in the world. From dramatic fjords and towering glaciers to vast ice fields and rugged mountain ranges, every view is awe-inspiring. Along the coast, you'll find colorful settlements set against a backdrop of icebergs drifting in the water and mountains towering behind. The scenery is constantly changing and always spectacular.

3. Engaging with local communities

The combination of raw natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and the sense of true exploration is what makes Greenland expeditions so special. The sheer scale of the icebergs, the untouched wilderness, and the deep connection with nature are unlike anywhere else.

But what truly stands out is the opportunity to engage with the local Greenlandic communities, learning about their traditions and way of life. It’s not just about seeing Greenland—it’s about experiencing and understanding it.

4. Sunsets like no other

One of my favorite memories is a quiet moment standing on deck late at night, watching the sunset, seeing it reflected in the water and giving the icebergs and mountains a fiery glow. It was a reminder of how vast, remote, and truly magical Greenland is.

5. Tasting Kaffemik with a local family

Another highlight was sharing a traditional Kaffemik with a local family, hearing their stories, and feeling a genuine connection across cultures. These moments—both grand and personal—are what make Greenland such an unforgettable place.
