Overview

A strenuous 12-mile circular walk starting from Castleton and heading up Westerdale to the source of the River Esk, the Esklets, rewarded by scenic moorland views. The route follows quiet country roads at first and then climbs upwards onto heather-covered moorland. The second half of the walk follows the river at closer proximity and at a lower level. Castleton provides two choices of pub, if refreshment is sought after the walk.
