Overview

Having completed the London Loop we are now setting out on the Capital Ring. As before the walks will generally be on the first Wednesday of the month albeit that this stage is on the second Wednesday of October.

We start at Woolwich Station on the Elizabeth Line and NOT Woolwich Arsenal Station. The 10.12 from Farringdon arrives at 10.29. If anyone does wish to join from the north Bank we will pass the entrance to the Woolwich Foot Tunnel at about 10.45am but will not linger. The walk ends at Falconwood Station where there are trains to London Bridge and Victoria. There are no toilet facilities either at Woolwich or until well into the walk. Anyone needing the toilet on arrival could go to Woolwich Arsenal Station and then walk to Woolwich Station.

The walk takes us along the south bank of the Thames to the Barrier and passes what remains of the Old Royal Arsenal and Royal Naval Dockyards. It then passes through a number of parks including Maryon Wilson Park, Charlton Park, Woolwich Common, Eltham Common,Castle Wood, Jackwood, Oxleas Wood and Eltham Common.

We will lunch at Charlton House where there are toilet facilities. . There is a cafe serving sandwiches etc but service is slow. It would be sensible to bring a packed lunch. It would be appreciated if you could email me to confirm your attendance unless you have already done this on the NELR site.

The terrain is undulating with a steep flight of steps, but mainly even. There are no obvious drop out points. The whole of the walk is within zone 4.
