This short section of the Capital Ring is 4.3 miles from Crystal Palace Station to Streatham Common Station. It is on paving and tarmac throughout. The walkover was more interesting than I had expected although my expectations had not been great. It links a number of green spaces that originally formed part of the Great North Wood, from which the place name of Norwood is derived. Points of interest include Biggin Wood, Norwood Grove House and gardens and Streatham Common.
There are trains from both Victoria and London Bridge. The 9.58 train from London Bridge arrives at Crystal Palace Station at 10.20 and we shall meet at the station exit at that time. There is a toilet on platform 1: the toilet by the exit is locked! On the return there are trains from Streatham Common Station to London Bridge at 6 and 36 minutes past the hour. However the 109 bus from Streatham High Street to Brixton Underground station on the Victoria line may be more convenient for many.
Given the short length of the walk the intention is to complete it before lunchtime. Those wishing to lunch before returning may wish to consider the Rookery Cafe on Streatham Common. There is outside seating. Alcohol is sold and it looked both homely and inviting.
Although not essential it would be appreciated if anyone intending to join the walk would email me beforehand.
