Ousby is a small village in Cumbria, England. The village is 8 miles to the east of Penrith. The name Ousby is supposed to be derived from the Viking name of "Ulff".The 13th Century Church of St Luke stands a little way out of the village and contains a very rare, 700-year-old wooden carving.
In previous walks we have traversed the splendidly name Fiend’s Fell on the way to Cross Fell (see pics 1 and 2) before dropping down to the valley (pic 3). In ancient times it was known as "Fiends Fell" and believed to be the haunt of evil spirits. St Augustine of Canterbury is said to have blessed the hill when he arrived here on his travels so it became known as Cross Fell in the Christian tradition. The deans that lived there moved off to Fiend’s Fell
