Walking in Tyneside and beyond

Welcome to the Tyneside group. We travel by coach from Newcastle Upon Tyne every Wednesday and Sunday to walk and enjoy the beautiful countryside of the north of England and Scottish Borders.

Each week we travel to our destinations in four comfortable coaches:

Sunday Hancock Coach

Sunday St James Coach

Wednesday Hancock Coach

Wednesday Boulevard Coach

Each coach offers several linear or circular walks of different grades at their destination. See below for coach details.

Join our walking community

New members are always welcome. Join us to visit parts of our countryside you never knew existed. There is usually time at the end of our walks to enjoy refreshments in a country pub or tea room, talk with friends or make new ones!

We ask that all regular walkers become a member of the Ramblers, however you are welcome to come along for a few taster walks before joining.

Our AGM is at the Lit and Phil, Westgate Road on 23rd January 2025 at 7:30 pm

Registration from 7:00 pm.

Our walks

Our walking area includes the Northumberland, North York Moors, Lake District, and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. We are also lucky to have these Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty within easy reach:

  • Northumberland Coast  & Cheviot Hills

  • North Pennines

  • Nidderdale

  • Howgill Fells

  • World Heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall

Several walks are offered on each coach. They range from 10 km/6 miles to 25 km/16 miles and cover varied terrain. More information about the Walk grades can be found here What-we-do.

If you are using the Ramblers App click Events (not Led Walks) to find full details of our walks.

Be prepared and able to walk at least 12 km / 8 miles as walks leaders do sometimes need to change their planned walk due to unforeseen circumstances. In summer, we leave for home at 6pm, in winter it’s 5pm. A list of walks will be available on this website 2-3 days beforehand and include all the details you’ll need.

There’s always the chance of bad weather, so do please come prepared, along with appropriate footwear. A change of clothing and footwear, which can be left on the coach, is always a good idea.

Unfortunately, because we travel by coach, we’re not able to allow dogs on our walks.

Our coaches

Our coaches do get full, so advance booking is essential.   Contact the booking secretary for the coach who will answer any questions you may have, details below.
