This is a circular walk setting out from Pitton. We follow the Clarendon Way towards Salisbury. Past Clarendon Place, we turn north, keeping to the high ground. Our morning break will be high on the hills overlooking Salisbury We should have fantastic views of the city and cathedral.
After coffee we drop down into the valley and the River Bourne and Winterbourne Earls before climbing back up to Figsbury Ring. Our picnic stop will be at these Iron Age rings. After lunch we follow the Monarchs Way to Middle Winterslow before turning west back onto the Clarendon Way to return to Pitton along the ridge. We should see many fine views.
We walk mainly on paths and tracks, through woodland and open country. There is a small amount of road walking . There are a small number of stiles along the route.
This is a picnic walk. Bring food and drink for a morning “coffee break” and lunch break. The afternoon leg is quite long by our usual standards. Depending on how we are going , we may well have another, shorter afternoon breather en route.
Also as the walk is a couple of miles longer longer than normal, the chances are we will finish nearer 4pm than 3 pm.
Please let me know if you want to join this walk. We will get cracking when all known walkers have arrived.
