Hedleyhope Fell (near Tow Law)
This is a moderate circular route: although it is only around 4.5 miles in distance, it is mainly over rough moorland, and therefore a little slow in pace. It is boggy and muddy in some places but definitely not excessively so - the typical moorland is effective in absorbing and storing excess water. Gaiters and sticks could be useful.
We set off downhill from the car park in a NE direction. At the bottom of the hill, we follow the course of the Hedleyhope Burn to the SW. Towards the outskirts of Tow Law, we make a gentle ascent and the path levels out at the top of the hill. The final section of the walk, back to the car park, is on good tracks, with stunning views to the N.
The Cafe plan after the walk is that we will go to Bespoke, in Sacriston, which is on the way back to Chester le Street. The cafe is situated on the cross roads of the B6312 with the Front Street in Sacriston, DH7 6LE. As you are driving back, if you turn left at the traffic lights, there are 2 roads on the left shortly after this, which both lead to car parks. The first road leads to a small car park, however if you take the second road (signposted for Community Centre), there is plenty of available car parking space.
