Overview

The first of four available days of walking in and around the area of Porlock in Somerset. Check out the Event pages for more information on the Porlock Walking Weekend 2023.

This walk begins in Simonsbath village so is quite well south-west of Porlock, more towards central Exmoor. We will be climbing up the moor to reach the head of the River Exe, following both the Two Moors Way and then the Tarka Trail, high on the moor at about 490 metres (only slightly short of Exmoor's peak at Dunkery Beacon).

Great views can be expected along the way and we'll stop at pretty Pinkery Pond. From here we'll drop down the valley across wild moorland paths and tracks, then trace some of the undulating contours past Edgerley Stone and Sloley Stone to Mole's Chamber and tracking the roadside for a short while before again following some demanding contours to finally join the downhill stretch of road back into Simonsbath. Here we can take final refreshments at the Exmoor Forest Inn and/or make our way back to Porlock.
