We are the Chester-le-Street Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Pontop Pike
Moderate 4½ miles (7 km). The walk follows the railway cycle path West, then crosses the A693towards Greencroft. We then leave the road and follow field paths and farm tracks gradually uphill to the radio mast at Pontop Pike for splendid views. After a short break we descend gradually past East Castle Farm, where we rejoin the railway cycle path back to the start point.
Note:
Due to recent weather conditions, some of the tracks are very muddy…if you’ve got gaiters… wear them. There are also a few stiles en route.

Greencroft Industrial Park Fishing Pond. From Chester-Le-Street follow the A693 towards Stanley. Stay on this road through Stanley, and follow it towards Consett. On leaving Stanley, go straight ahead at the first roundabout, underneath a footbridge, then take the first exit left signposted Greencroft Industrial Park. The fishing pond is 300 yards down this road (Parkway) on the right. Park nearby on the Industrial Estate and meet at the pond. Nearest Postcode : DH9 7YB.
