Overview

We will start the walk along the Town and Country Trail (following the disused Ross to Monmouth railway line). We will then climb up a fairly steep and muddy path to the saddle between Chase Hill and Penyard Park. After a level path through the top of Merrivale Wood Nature Reserve we join the Wye Valley Walk and climb almost to the top of Chase Hill, where there was once an Iron Age fort. Where the Wye Valley Walk starts to descend we continue around the hill, eventually returning to the corner of Merrivale wood where we take the track back to the car park.
